Architectural-Engineering Design Services

Project Description:

Extensive Energy Audit Services

Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM

Scope of Work

Energy Audits:

Provided energy audit services for two buildings, the TA-3/1400, National Security Sciences Building and TA-60/175, the Communication Operations Building in support of the Los Alamos National Laboratory High Performance Sustainable Building Program.  The audit included computerized energy modeling of the facility in the manner described in ASHRAE 90.1-2007.  This included performance simulation and evaluation of individual Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs).  The energy simulation software used was Trane Trace. The initial energy calculations for the building were calibrated to the actual energy usage data provided by LANL prior to commencing with the review of energy conservation measures. The team performed a review of the existing building design, conducted field observations and reviewed the current operational sequence of control to determine feasible ECMs.  We recommended measures or a combination of measures that achieve building performance that is 20% better than the ASHRAE 90.1 baseline.  A rough order of magnitude cost estimate for each ECM was provided to determine simple payback for the resulting energy savings.

Re-Commissioning Assistance:

Supported the re-commissioning agent by providing updated sequences of operation that provided new energy conserving measures.
